Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game secured 27.33M audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million viewers. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
